I rigged a character with fur but when I try to reference that scene into a new scene under the same project, I get the message:

“Warning: The scene you are referencing contains Fur. You must ensure that the Fur Globals in this scene are set as required, since the values in the referenced Fur Globals node are not used.”

I go to Fur > Fur Render Settings > Reference Paths, and make the paths the same as the Fur scene, I still get the message.  If I try to render a frame, I get “Error, couldn’t open D:/Maya/Rat/furEqualMap//R_eqMap_1.iff” but that file doesn’t exist in the original scene either.

If I use Mental Ray instead of Maya Software, it renders without problems.  If I render a frame in the original scene, there are no problems.

Why aren’t the values in the referenced Fur Globals node being used and how do I set the Fur Globals “as required”.

Thanks!

rdunbar… I am having this same issue, did you ever figure out exactly how to solve the problem?

Open the referenced scene, select defaultFurGlobals and save a preset. Load the master scene, select defaultFurGlobals and apply the preset you just saved. Both scenes now use the same fur globals.

Tried that THNKR… no luck again, but thanks.

I have a monkey with fur that renders in about 12 seconds (maya render) in its original file. However when I reference it into my animation scene it wont render the monkey at all! Maya basically freezes and I have to kill the render :(

Even stranger, if I just import the monkey into the scene(i’d rather reference) it takes nearly 3 minutes to render…

I found a similar issue in this post (http://forums.cgsociety.org/show...4&highlight=reference+fur) and have tried the copy att maps option tim suggested as well as turning off the equalizer maps- but no luck.
