Hi,
I am using BodyPaint 3D with Maya 8.5 in production, and using the xchange plug in to send textures back and forth from maya to bp and then back to maya, updating the hypershade with my revised bp texture maps. Recently I have been having a strange issue, and I am trying to determine if the BP xchange plug in is somehow affecting Maya. Let me explain further.
This is the workflow i am using - In my Maya scene the already uv’d model has material shaders and empty texture file nodes created for each object.
Using the BP xchange plug in, the model is then sent to BP where the texure wizard is used to create color, bump and spec textures for the empty texture file nodes of each material shader.
In BP the textures are painted, revised and modified, 3d projections are saved out as .psd’s and opened in photoshop for editing certain things, and then merged back in, ect. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Once the editing is finished for that session, i use the xchange plug in to send the revised maps back to Maya where the hypershade is updated.
Here i save the maya scene, and make sure that none of the textures are “.0.psd” as i have discovered that these are not actually saved to disk yet. Sometimes I need to go back to BP and save each texture out individually by right clicking on the texture in materials tab to ensure they are saved.
Here is the issue:
recently i have noticed that after going through this workflow, that the maya hypershade texture nodes are pointing to an entirely different directory that i originally designated, and when i try to “repoint” the texture file nodes in the hypershade to the desginated directory, an entirely NEW directory is created, and copies of all the textures in the hypershade are saved out into this new directory with the scene file name added into the original texture name.
Has anyone else experinced this, or heard of it before?
To my knowledge there is no feature in Maya itself that would allow for this spontaneous directory creation...and so I have also posted on the Cinema 4D BodyPaint 3D forums trying to find out more information.
Any information is appreciated.
thanks!
