Hi,

I come from XSI where mental ray is actually easy to use =). Anyway ... I am trying to use it on a project I am working on and I am getting crazy frustrated ... at this point I am wondering if I should just bail and use Maya’s renderer =(.

Here is an example of the problems I am having

I can’t get the shadows to work .. I have tried/checked the following :

1. render setings - raytraycing - reflections = 3, refractions = 3, max trace depth = 20, shadows = 10(i know overkill)
2. checked the light raytrace attributes = shadow rays = 3, ray depth limit = 3
3. added the mb_shadow_transparency node to the material

H E L P - should I just use maya nodes ??????

Have you enabled raytracing in the lights shadow?

*ditto

depth map shadows won’t work on this particular shader - make sure raytraced shadows is turned on in the light attributes
