Hi,

I’ve just started making my way through Learning Maya 7 book. I am having trouble with some texture placement. I have followed the book point by point but I am unable to get texture placement right.

I loaded up the example file and all my values are exactly the same yet on my piece, the grid just doesn’t go right when I apply it to a box.

I have attached a picture to show what I mean. The left handside is my piece and the right one is the example. As you can see the grid on mine just doesn’t sit the same way.

I should mention that I am using Maya 8.5 rather than 7.

I hope some one can help as I am out of ideas. :(

It looks like they are using automatic projection.  I’m not sue about how they do things in the book, but this should get very similar results:

Select your object
Choose Create UVs from the Polygons menu set
Choose Automatic Projection

That should do it.

Or select the side face, Choose Create UVs from the Polygons menu set, planar mapping, yo’ll see the placing tool, so you can place your texture as you need.
Or just make new cube with default UV
