Dear Stefman,
You’re not alone, I’m also having exactly the same problem.
I’m trying to run Maya 2008 on Windows Vista on my HP laptop and it’s getting me crazy.
Take a look on my screen and you all of you can notice that we have the same problem.
Thanks everybody for the help.

I’ve done that model on my desktop computer, this problem on my laptop.
The funny thing is when I have 4 viewports I don’t have the problem, it only shows up when I’m on the perpective view.
Please, can you helpe me? How can I set the viewport for Software insted of Open GL or Direct X?
Thanks for your support!

I’ll repeat one solution as posted earlier. Go to the Intel Display properties page and select 16bit depth buffer for the OpenGL settings.
There may be other solutions, seen at least 1 other solution in a different thread, can’t remember what it was exactly, but it was again along the lines of system display properties settings.
log a bug with Intel on their display driver that it doesn’t manage frame buffer memory as well as it could.
