I’m pretty new to modeling (as compared to most of you guys) and for the love of god, I can’t figure out what I did, and how to reverse it.

Basically, it’s impossible without drag-selecting to select anything inside another object.  Even if I position my camera so it’s as close to the object I want to select; and there is no possible way to select the outside object; I will still somehow select it.

Not sure how else to explain it.  I’ve tried going to settings and setting them back to default, but nothing. Major thanks if anyone helps!
(If I described my problem badly, please tell me and I will spend more time explaining it)

It’s kind of hard to know exactly what you’re describing without a screenshot.. but you may want to try changing some things to help your situation.

Go to Window > Settings/Preferences > Preferences
Then under “Settings” click on Selection and you’ll see in the “Modifiers” list of options, change the settings to the image below.

no way!

It’s better to put name to each object, and then window-outliner, where you can find and select any object of your scene

I have the same problem when trying to select objects. It likes to select objects that are in the back or behind the intended object. I have 6.5 and dont have the Pick Chooser option nor the Pre-selection Highlite option.

I did switch computers. Went from a PC to MAC (has Bootcamp), keeping Maya on the PC side. And this did not happen on the old PC.

Its frustrating and makes it doubly horrific when working on the scene.

Thanks-
Matt

Sorry to bump this old topic, but I found a solution.

Video Card: ATI x1550
Driver Version (not most recent):6.14.0010.6734

It was caused by installing newer versions of the driver listed here.  When reverting back to the one I have, the problem dissapeared.
