I have a huge problem.
I am a real beginner to Maya and do not know where to start with this.

I am creating a scene where I have a ball that appears in the sea from underwater and so i need to create a splash effect when it appears.

I’ve found a lot of tutorials on water splashes but nothing makes sense to me as most people are banging on about realflow and I know nothing about that and don’t want to use it.

How can i create this splash effect?

I’ve created an ocean and have made the ball and have set the keys for the ball to bounce around and that looks fine. I then created a couple of particle emitters to emit at different times and to emit particles of different sizes in different directions to look like a splash but it just looks rubbish.

Is there a better way to go about doing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Maya doesn’t do liquids very well. RealFlow does; that’s why you keep hearing about it.

It’s a commercial package, and a bit pricey:
