I know 2 ways of doing it.DMM and Ncloth, havent used these methods in a while because i have problems with maya…
For DMM just make the hood a DMM Object and aplayy the UB_Denting Material to it in the DMM Material and ajust the density and Youngs.. or .. how ever you spell it.. and if u dont want the hood to break set the toughness to 0 so it only bends..

With ncloth just make the hood an Ncloth and play around with the resistance was it?.. i dont know but you could keyframe the risistance so that when the boulder hits it it bends it for like 3 to 6 frames then set the resistance to max and itl give it the bending effect. sorry if i didnt help..
