Please don’t take it as discouragement - by all means, model/texture/render the logo in 3d… but for the actual cutting out I’d really recommend doing it in a compositing package, considering the broadness of the question.
From a production standpoint, thats a good question to ask yourself - “what actually has to be done in 3d?”. Just doing 3d for the sake of it being 3d can consume a lot of unnecessary time for what could be done much faster by a 2d method.
If you really do want to pursue a 3d solution, you’ll need to share a more detailed plan of how you want the effect to actually look.
Realistic? Cartoony? Stylized?
Will the logo be etched in the surface or actually cut out physical pieces?
Are you wanting to do secondary effects like burns? Smoke? Sparks? Etc.?
