maya 2010

What would be the simplest way to have an instancer assigned to a particle use 7 instanced objects with no cycling. the idea is to create 8 unique meshes then use the instancer to place them and animated them via a particle system

I tried assigning unique parent IDs (0-7) and creating an attribute to assign unique values to but they all get zeroed(blanked)out when I render or restart. I think I missing something basic but cant seem to find the answer in old posts tutorials or in the online ref.

thanks
Adam

My current work around invloves using cycle in the instancer and setting cycle start o Parrent id. by making the frames longer than the scene it seems to fork for now
