system; XP. dual p4-quad, nvidia 900 quadro, 2.5 gig,
When I apply Ncloth to any standard primitive poly mesh everything works fine. no issues. (Very exciting, smooth !)
However, no matter what I do to Collada or FBX imported meshes Ncloth will crash Maya. (No error messages, aside from Fatal error saving in My Doc~.../ )
There is no animation data on the collada or fbx files. Simple skinned character(s) w/ skeletons.
I created a shirt in Maya and applied Ncloth to it. No problem.
When I attempt to select the character and apply Ncloth passive to it, Maya crashes.
How do I go about doing this correctly ?
Is there something I should be doing with the collada or fbx files on import ?
I need to bring in FBX files, since this is where the animation is created.
Is there something wrong with the meshes that are imported ? Something I should look for ; Bad geometry, nodes, history...etc? Something that needs to be changed ?
If I delete all mesh history I lose my skin data. If I then try to apply Ncloth Maya still crashes.
If I delete all history aside from skin and apply Ncloth Maya still crashes.
If objects come in grouped do I ungroup? Collada format brings in a scene node which all imported objects are grouped into. I’ve tried ungrouping but this still does not help the problem with crashing.
Do I need to convert the mesh(es) into something other than what they are imported as ?
Please help. I just can’t figure out what is causing this, or more importantly, what process I am doing inorrectly and what steps I need to take.
Thank you for your help.
Edit; the only thing that seems to work is exporting the geometry back out as OBJ and bringing it back in and reapplying the skin via copy skin weights. This seems kind of tedius as the materials all then need to be reapplied.
Still looking for guidance. Help please.
