I think it would be much faster/easier to do in a compositing package.
Is it a locked camera or does it actually need to be a 3d effect?

yeah i suppose i could do it in AE. the effect i was after is the klingon type of teleporter. it looks like the person/ object is being “showered” almost as if its liquid which is why i thought particles would be the way to go.

Hey mate,

I gotta agree, I would do this in comp, but if you really want to do it in 3D, I would use particles or fluids.

If you pretty confident with particles then they would be your best bet, Fluids are incredible to but you need the machine and understanding of how fluids and containers work.

But if I got and watched the right vid for the kingdon then, AE or comp program will nail that effect way quicker without all the headaches:)

Agree - particles are the way to go… but they don’t have to be 3D if the camera isn’t moving

thanks guys i will test a few ways to go.

not sure if anyone has seen “Barbarella” but theres a really cool effect when shes in the “dream” room it looks like someone pouring coloured paint onto a sheet of glass with the camera underneath i really want to try to replicate that in maya aswell…
