2011 to 2012 update?

Student license on a Mac OSX system and I have just downloaded Maya 2012. Currently running 2011. What do I need to do to preserve my settings and such. Can I upgrade, or do I have to uninstall and start over.

Hope someone can answer this. I can’t find anything on the install instructions. Thanks.

you dont have to uninstall 2011 before installing 2012. but i recomment to set up your maya env file for each version with like maya_location, plugin and script path to prevent possible conflicts.

can this be done in the install process or is this something you have to do manually?
