Hello,
I have installed Maya 2012 x64 SP1 student version for Windows 7 and have a regular Logitech mouse.
The problem mentioned is in the title. It is hard to pan with the mouse because randomly, when I click Alt + Middle mouse button, it results in an incremental zoom or a pan, which is good but not enough good because there is some kind of conflict.

Previously, I installed the setPoint driver for my Logitech mouse & keyboard and I could somehow resolve the pan problem by setting the middle mouse button to “generic button”. Before I did that, it always zoomed instead of panning. I have read in a post somewhere that it often happens with Logitech mice. A person mentioned that with his HP mouse, he did not have this problem. So I guess it is a strange problem.

As I said before, I have tried with the SP1 version too but it did not solve the problem. There is no hotfix in the PDF file mentioning the pan issue.

Is it because I have a student version, or a x64 one?

If a programmer from Autodesk could read this and solve this issue if for example working with the x86 version would not be thing to do, the help would be greatly appreciated.

go to window - setting preferences - interface: mouse scroll wheel and uncheck enable!
dont know what happend because all versions before it worked well but that helped me to solve the probleme. i never used the wheel to zoom so it dosn´t affect my workflow.
