Hi All,

I am very new to the world of Maya, call me a noob if you will. I am encountering a major problem when using my mac, I have read all the fourms and searched for answers but I find nothing that will help, lots of others with the same problem but no fix.

The problem is that I have a 27” imac i5 with 4GB ram and radeon graphics, (osx lion) I didnt have any problems installing and at first worked great. As I started to use maya and modeling through a tutorials I noticed that maya was becoming very slow, its now at the point where its taking 4-5 secs just to select objects. I get the pinwheel everytime.

I have even tried installing service pack 1 (for maya) to see if that would help and it has not.

please guys is there a way round this other than going with a pc?

There are a lot of factors that can affect performance. How many polys in your scene? Lots of history piling up? Paint effects notoriously slow down a scene… Lots to look at- its not your Mac. Also, are there other programs running ? Info about your scene will help diagnose issues.

Hi, thanks for the reply, first off as I said I’m very new to maya (this is the first model) I am following a digital tutors tutorial (the Harley) and got as far as just completing the frame so not that many polys! I’m not using any other program’s in the background and have only the model! I have deleted the history on the model also but still maya is basically unusable on my mac.
