I recently purchased the GTS 250 and it seems to be working just fine.  I pretty much just animate, though.  I don’t do much rendering or any of that fancy stuff.

The video card is not used during (software) rendering…
Generally, the nVidia cards get along better with Maya than the Radeon’s (under Windows).

these two cards exactly fits in my budget i am having for Graphics cards. You are recommending nvidia card but it s having lower clock speed and not even direct11 and old shader model as compared ati radeon 5 series. So can it perform better in. This is what i think what do u say

Maya utilizes OpenGL - not DirectX - so the card supporting DirectX 11 is irrelevant for Maya usage.

The Radeon does appears to be a faster card - but you’ll have to weigh it against the inherent glitches many users complain of when running Maya on Windows machines (not as bad on OSX). This may change as ATI updates drivers, so if you don’t mind a bit of risk, by all means, go with the faster card.

as u say go for a faster card so i have budget for nvidia gts 250 1gb and ati radeon 5770 1gb
so going through all review and specs analysis between two cards i found ati 5770 to be faster in clock speed , in memory and lots of more things except one i.e texture filter rate. So pls tell i should go for nvidia gts 250 or ati radeon 5770.
And here is the link comparing both the carsds http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=606&card2=615
