Hey so I have a new system here’s the details:

i7 860 CPU
8GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro FX 1800

Windows 7
Maya 2010 64 bit

Everything works great I can model and render but and the graphics card seems to be working, but when I hit the render Icon my screen goes black then comes back and seems fine but it’s the blink of death. After I get this blink of death everything will work normal but the moment I exit Maya my Monitor starts flickering uncontrollably. I have 2 monitors an LG and Samsung I’ve tried them singly I’ve tried dual monitor and it always flickers after I close maya Only if I tried rendering before I close Maya. Doesnt matter if it’s software render or Mental Ray same issue.

If im in dual monitor mode both the screens will flicker in sync which makes me think its graphics card related or driver fault. Has anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions. Rather annoying until I can find a solution.

Oh yeah and the only thing I can find that stops the flickering is restarting the PC nothing else seems to stop it once it starts. I’ve tried the Nvidia menu and windows toggling monitors changing htz res everything I could think of.

And if it helps troubleshoot at all I also have 3ds max 2010 64 bit and I can render all day long in max without a problem. So why Maya???

I think you’re on the right track in thinking this is a driver issue.  Did you check the Qualification charts listed in this forum?  Maybe there’s a problem with the most recent driver and you have to roll it back to a previous one.  I suggest you contact nVidia tech support as your next step - the Quadro family are supposed to be optimized for Maya.

I have a Quadro 3700 and I get the full blink when I hit render as well...but I don’t have the crazy close MAYA blinking.
Not sure how you have your card setup, but I had a bunch of problems when I set the driver settings to the MAYA specific option.
If you can, maybe try setting it to the General 3D application option instead...unless you have tried this already.

Good luck
~Ben

You said your screen blinks too when you render although you dont get the annoying aftermath flashing, but if you want to get rid of the initial flash try changing your stereo display mode from the default to something like color interleaved. I no longer have any flashing and maya seems to be more stable now.

I did some homework and the setting is for 3d stereotoppic glasses and my best guess of why I was having the problems is because Maya has the stereo camera and maybe since Maya supports the 3d monitor mode the GPU is trying to readjust the frame rate to work with stereoscopic glasses, but since im not runinng a 3d monitor I was getting the problem.

Anyways wanted to pass the info on you may find it helpful in running maya more stable…

Alright thanks for the advice guys. Yeah Im going to get Nvidia on the phone to try and help with this issue. And thanks for the suggestion animated fox yeah I’ll play with the settings on the driver and try something besides the 3d app global that its set to by default. Its interesting to know that your screen flashes as well when you go to render. It must be the GPU configuring before render time or something and maybe once I close Maya it doesn’t take itself out of whatever mode its going in to. That would explain the screen flashing I suppose. I’ll keep you guys updated if I find anything else out.

Try turning aero off before running Maya
stereo amongst other states are incompatible with aero on vista and win7

Alright everyone so I got the problem resolved it was the GPU after all. After trying to set back the drivers and that didnt help with the issue. I took warnolds advice and started playing with the stereo settings and doing test renders until the problem went away.

Thanks guys for your support and getting me back up and running!
