I couldn’t find anything in search so I don’t think this has been posted before.

I am trying to get my extra mouse buttons to work with Maya. Instead of holding Alt and dragging in order to rotate the camera, I would like to use mouse button five. Similarly, I would like to switch the Alt+Mouse 3 for panning to mouse button 4. I couldn’t find it in the hotkey options. Does anyone know how to do this?

In addition, I can also change the mouse buttons to reflect keys, (for example, press mouse button 4 and it types a word) so if I can just find the command and change it to a single key, that would work as well.

you would have to do that in your mouse’s software I believe. Like if its a logitech mouse, use the setpoint software the mouse comes with the customize the buttons by application. As for actually changing the way the mouse and commands work in Maya for navigation I do not think is possible. Ie changing the pan button from one button to the other. Now you can definitely assign your 4th button to become your 3rd button probably if your mouse software supports it. Then you can make Macros for the buttons to be used as commands in maya which is a neat idea that I may steal from you. :)

hope that helps

I actually have the Razor Deathadder gaming mouse. I could switch the Alt key for the 4th button in the program for the mouse, which might simplify things.

I can also switch the third button for the fourth button, but how would I make a macro for the buttons to be used as commands in Maya? Would I do that in Maya or the mouse software?

not too familiar with razor, but if it is possible there should be an option in the software of the mouse to record multiple key strokes or it should just say create/Assign macro instead of assigning it a new button or single key.

You can definitely create “macros” in Maya, just not with the mouse, using the script editor to run commands faster or creating new shelf buttons. If that makes any sense.
