Do you have ‘any’ menus visible on your screen?
Are you able to access the ‘Display’ menu at the very top of your screen?

If not, does holding down the spacebar open up hotbox on your screen? If you can access ‘Display’, try ‘UI Elements - Restore UI Elements’

No the top line isn’t there in the hotbox either. even when I hit the spacebar the top line has Bonus/ Tools/ Help.

I’ve got the screenshots on the CPU. Send me a pm with your email and I’ll email them both to you. If you can send it to me so you can get it at home as I have several late assignments to work on that are already late. I need to get this fixed. I have been trying in vain to find the preferences file and cannot. My only other recourse is too um reload the program AGAIN. I have done that once already. I was hoping to not have to do that.

Try deleting your preferences file:

(Windows) drive:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\maya\version#\prefs
(Mac OS X) Users/username/Library/Preference/Autodesk/maya/version#/prefs
(Linux) ~username/maya/2010/prefs
