Our Maya lab runs all Apple iMac machines. We have a network license from Autodesk. After installing the Network License Manager on one of the machines (named mayalab-01.local) I just couldn’t get any other computer to connect to it. I kept getting a -15 error number which I found meant that the clients just couldn’t connect to the server. I struggled with this for days. Eventually I changed the server hostname in the license file on one of the clients to the IP of the license server and it worked!
I can ping the server on both the IP and the hostname (mayalab-01.local) but Maya will only find a license from the server if I specify the IP address.
The iMacs are connect to a wireless network (Airport) which is hosted on of the machines. The problem is that AirPort uses DCHP to issue IP address. This means that IP address can change on a per machine basis which means that the IP address of the server can change. I cannot find any information on specifying reserved IP Addresses in OS X for AirPort, so I’m guessing it can’t be done without an AirPort wireless router.
Anyone know why the I cannot connect to the hostname? Having to use the IP address of the server is a bit of a problem.
