I installed Maya 2010 trial version first.  Then installed the educational version.  Everything seemed fine.  Today I tried to uninstall Maya 2010 from my 5010 fujitsu Lifebook and was unable to.  It showed the little window that said “Gathering necessary information” and it took about 30 minutes before it started to fill up the progress bar at the bottom.  It gets to about 80% full (fills with green) and then it just goes away...the window disappears.  Maya remains.

I have not been able to find out any way to contact Autodesk about this.  Their website makes it very difficult to contact them.

Is there any way to manually remove programs?  There is a link to another thread on this forum related to this issue and the only recommendation is to install a program called “Absolute Uninstaller” which I did...but the same thing happens.

Would be very grateful for any help in solving this problem.  Thanks

I have the same problem.
I have a Virtual machine (Virtualbox on a Linux host) with a genuine windows XP install.
I installed Maya 2010 trial. But now I can’t uninstall it.

In this case Absolute Uninstaller is a useless program. It does nothing more than the XP “add/remove program tool” and fail the same way.

Autodesk should find a solution because I don’t want to use any freaking program to uninstall their applications.
Their website doesn’t seem to be a place to contact them even to buy something (ok I’m mean :( ).

I hope you’ll find a solution. I think I will reinstall my system and always make snapshots before installing trial softwares.

Good luck!

I am feeling the same things.  Their website sadly lacks an easy route to contact them...I have yet to try out their pay for tech support route.  It is hard enough to afford to keep up with the subscription annual payment...as I do not use 3ds max professionally any more.

I was also thinking about reinstalling my operating system and just wiping out everything and starting over...this time taking more snapshots as you say...so I can revert back to a point before the install.

Is there away to perform a forced uninstall and manually take out the program and all the registry entries?
