i have very simple issue but i couldn’t find the way to solve it..
the problem is, i can’t use Texture with black and white color as Transparency if i want to render with Mental Ray.
for example if i create a texture with photoshop of a black sheet with white hold in the middle and i used that as transparent texture it won’t work if i try to render it with mental ray but it will work if i render it with software..
does anyone knows why????????????? please

I use transparency, opacity and cutout maps all the time with mental ray.

Describe more about how it doesn’t work.

Keep in mind that depending on the shader type the black and white image may have to be flipped. Opacity and transparency are reciprocals of each other.

It could also be a UV mapping issue. If your UV coordinates all fall into the area you want to keep, then nothing will be invisible.

Try this test:

Set renderer to Mental Ray
Make a plane
Apply either a Standard or Arch & Design material
Place a checker map into the opacity, transparency or cutout slot
Render

If that doesn’t work, there may be something more going on.

that works of course when you are using maya texture but try to use a file image with only black and white with maya shader , and try to render using mr, you’ll notice it won’t work.. it’s so strange..
i’m using maya 2012 and i also tried that on maya 2011
