1- you must turn off all of funtions in Shadow section in spotlight attribute
2-creating a fill light that its direction is perpendicular to the floor in your scene
( my english is so poor, i hope you can understand what i wrote )

well not that!… I now understood what you want.. i think .. ok what all you have to do is..
Create a area light and then in its attributes under Shadows section turn on raytrace shadows and keep any value you wish.. i prefer 16 and 32 in the first and second slots and then place the light correctly in such a way where you want the shadow to be… This way add some more area lights to add much better effect… Careful with the intensity..  keep it in decimals.... like 0.5 or 0.4 or whatever… This may solve your prob.. does it?
