hey hey guys,
i am just trying to work out how to do this render:

i have disabled all the lights in my scene and have bumped up the “primary diffuse scale” in the FG settings and i get my render to look like the first picture, now i would like to put on all of my lights but doing this blows out all the incandescence in the materials in the FG render see picture 2..

how do i get the lights not effect the FG.?

thanks

You can save out your final gather map.  Open the “Indirect Lighting” tab in the mental ray render settings, and navigate down to the section called “final gather maps”.

By default, “rebuild” is on, meaning your FG points are calculated every time you render.  There’s a dialog box in that section where you can type in a name for your FG map - do that, then render.

Next, turn “Rebuild” to “Freeze”.  This turns off the FG calculation and re-uses the map you just saved.  Anything you do to your lights or shaders will no longer affect the final gather.

Note, however, that your final gather points are ONLY calculated based on what your camera can see when you calculate them - if you move your camera angle you’ll have big gaps in your final gather and will have to re-calculate the points.
