I have followed all of the instructions for installing mrsat3.9.1.dmg for the mental ray satellite on two Macs without success. I am using Maya 2012 with HotFix2. I created the maya.rayhosts files and turned off my firewall. I am not getting any indication that this is working. Has anyone else been able to get this to work?

I got it working on PC by specifically allowing the raysat2012server.exe file through the firewall on all slave machines. My firewall is still on—turning it off did not make a difference without pointing to the raysat2012server.exe.

Turns out I have a node lock license and cannot use Mental Ray satellite. Oh, well.

Hi, I have the same issue, trying to get a MacBookPro to help rendering on a MacPro (quadcore) master.  It only renders on the master machine.  I can ping the MacBookPro from the MacPro, on the MacBookPro I have enabled “allow incoming connection” on the firewall for raysatd and raysat… On the master machine Maya and MayaBatch have “allow incoming connection” enabled on the firewall.  I have also tried switching off both machines’ firewalls… I understand I can network render MR on eight slave machines.
I have used a port scan from the master machine to the slave and can see port 7412 is open.

It seems as though Maya just ignores the request to render on networked machines.  It gives no warning error or response or feedback. Looking at the console render log, I see this at the near the start:

mental ray for Maya 2012
// Mental ray for Maya: using startup file /Applications/Autodesk/maya2012/Maya.app/Contents/mentalray/maya.rayrc.

I have a maya.rayhosts file in users/username/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/en_US/2012/prefs
I created the folders: /en_US/2012/prefs - to conform to the User’s Guide, they didn’t exist initially.
I also have another same maya.rayhosts file in /Applications/Autodesk/maya2012 (in case it couldn’t find the other file)
The file’s content is just the characters 192.168.0.40:7412

Hoping someone can assist?
Thanks

You should still be able to use MR Satellite.
I believe your limited to 5 rendering nodes versus 8 with a network license though…

As of the 2012 release, Maya can use up to four machines for satellite rendering.

Doesn’t matter if you have a Standalone or Network license.

With each new Maya (MR) update, MRSatellite is updated as well…
Are you certain you have the corresponding version of MRSatellite installed on the rendermachine(s)?

As far as I know both are the latest.  Satellite = 3.9.1 and Maya2012x64 SAP.
