Here is my set up: Maya 2012 Hot Fix 4, 3 PCs(Windows 7), 3 Macs (OS X Lion), Maya Software Render, Smedge 3 controlled Render Farm. When I attempt to render a scene with Paint Effects in it the image sequence(PNGs)render out ok on the PCs and the Mac rendered images render the scene except where the Paint Effects should be there is just white space, the motion is there but the texture is not. This is driving me crazy, If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

The directory structure on Mac’s and Pc’s is different (which you probably already know).

On the Pc side, the brushimages reside in a normal brushimages folder (buried within the Maya install folder), but on the Mac side, everything is contained inside the Maya.app package folder, which you can either manually open the scene(s) on the Mac, and redirect the paintFX brushes (to inside the Maya package folder) and kick off a separate render for the Mac side -or- what I recommend, extract the brush images out you need out to your source folder so they get distributed across the network automagically…

Thank you for your quick reply. The PaintFX that I am using is Kelp. This PaintFX does not have a image for the texture. I think that the file structure between PCs and Macs may have something to do with the macs not rendering properly. The Smenge Render software uses a Path Translator so the PCs and Macs can communicate. The translator:  \\fpdg01\XXXX XXXX /Volumes/XXXX XXXX As you can see in the image that I attached the PaintFX is there but the color is missing. I was wondering if this a Mac Lion and Maya2012 problem. I have no way of checking a local batch render on a Mac as the macs are only used as a render engine. Any suggestions or ideas?

Interesting…

Can you create a test scene on one of the Mac’s and throw some paintFX in it to see if it renders correctly without going through Smedge?

I wish I could,
The Macs are only being used as render engines, I only have my workstation licensed for Maya and it is a PC.

It looks like my workaround is to add 2 PCs to the render farm and render this scene (or any scene that I do with PaintFX) out with 5 PCs. Sometimes it seems like more time is spent coming up with workarounds than is spent being a digital artist. Thank you for your response.
