Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I am looking to achieve a “scanner beam” effect, like the green lines that go across the logo in this video.

Could anyone tell me how I should approach this, I am using maya2012.

Thanks for your time.

I’d approach it as combination of shading and compositing effects…
I see at least 5 different renderings needed of the logo spinning

1. The initial flat white shader with black wireframe
2. The glossy light gray shader with black wireframe
3. The glossy dark gray shader with no wireframe
4. The green wireframe shader
5. An animated alpha mask to drive your transition in the compositing

The last component is the ‘beam’ itself that passes over the logo, I’d probably try creating it as invisible geometry with a ramp shader driving the glow and color.

Thank you for responding, that makes sense now.
