Hi guys!
I’m having a problem with my image planes in maya 2011. In previous versions lowering the image planes’ alpha gain attribute gave them transparency but in maya 2011 it doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried several formats (png, tiff, etc, not only jpg) but the issue remains. Any ideas?

Also, wanted to know if it’s worth downloading the hotfix 3, as it’s a huge file… I’ve read the hotfix 3 pdf and couldn’t find anything about alpha gain issues, and the issues it resolves I’ve not still come across (except for the refreshing issue maybe)…

thanks for your help.

anybody? no one is having the same issue with maya 2011?
Also, does anybody have a constant crash when deleting history on an object?

:(

After reading your post, I went into Maya 2011, and loaded an Image Plane into my Front view.  I was able to see the image plane in the Front view and Perspective view just fine, as expected.  Then I edited the Alpha Gain of the image plane within the Image Plane attributes, and its transparency updated in both the Front view and Perspective view, as expected.  THEN, I changed the rendering mode of the Perspective view to High Quality and from that point on the Alpha Gain did NOT work.  I turned off High Quality to put it back how it was and it still did not work.  I tried restarting Maya, and my computer, but still from that point on the Alpha Gain doesn’t work.  Weird.

Yes, I have also had problems with Maya crashing when deleting history.  I haven’t spent much time troubleshooting, but for me it happens with a particular ‘human head’ polygon model that I am constantly having to “Mirror Geometry” to get a look at the full face and then Undo the mirror to get back to my editing state.  It sure would be nice if the all-incredible Maya had the ability to show a symmetrical mirrored end result (with welded vertices and smoothed edges)like 3ds Max has had for years.  ‘Duplicate Special’ just doesn’t cut it for this stuff.  Maybe 2012…

I am using Hotfix 3.

Hey Valen, I’m really sorry the alpha gain error in your Maya came up because of trying to test the issue I brought up… :(
In my case it happened from the very start, I didn’t change the quality in the viewport…

At least what I noticed in this version of maya is that everytime it crashes, it ALWAYS keeps kind of a ‘backup’ file in the temp folder… but unfortunately it crashes a lot more often than previous versions…
Anyway, thanks a lot for your reply and sorry again about the alpha gain issue…

It’s no problem.  It would have inevitably happened anyway.  Hopefully a solution will be found…
