Hi all, I know that animating textures in Maya is possible through the use of image sequencing, but what I am looking to do is slightly different from that. I have a character with textured facial features (similar to this: smash1yl5.jpg) and would like to know if it was possible to set up some sort of attribute, perhaps through the use of a set driven key, to animate the textures. I have various facial expressions etc drawn out for him but am unsure how to go about actually ainmating them. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Ross

I would just use the Conditions node along with a locator node and the use of set driven keys.  The locator node would be driven by the character and the Conditions Node would be driven by the Locator node.  The texture would be driven by the Conditions Node and you get the idea.  You also may be able to drive the overlaying features inside of a layered texture.  I am sure their are tutorials for doing this. Since the gaming industry is doing this all of the time…

I am not sure why I didn’t think of this, but you could set up all of your maps as a sequence (FILENAME.###.EXT).  Now you can use an expression that is driven by an attribute which can be used to determine which frame or file to use at any given time in the animation.
