Hello there,

So now I’m making a bathroom (haha), and the only material that is destroying me is the mirror. I just cannnot make it perfectly reflective! I thought it would be easy! But it’s either too foggy or way too bright.

Any suggestions?

Use DGS material.  Here is a preset.
Put that script file here: Documents\Maya\2008-x64\presets\attrPresets\dgs_material

Hello,

Thanks for the posts. I forgot which material I’m using (can’t bother to check right now) but I attached a pic (not finished of course) to show you guys what I have so far. As you can see it’s quite foggy and I think it takes away from the picture.

Thanks for the script. I’ll check it out.

Actually, it’s not a script, it is a material preset.

Hello,

Thanks for the posts! For the one with the preset, I did not have the folders you described to put them in. I tried making them and then putting them in, but I’m not sure if that worked. Can you just list the values since the material itself doesn’t have so many variables? That would be great!

Heh thanks for the comment. I just started putting up curtians. Biggest pain the in the butt even since I tried a little overlapping...kind of...thing. It looks ok but now the lighting is a little messy. Any idea on how to fix it? I do not want to change the lights to much.

Here’s a pic.

Thanks!

Here you go.
Also, where are your personal Maya files stored, that may help you find the presets directory.

Hello again,

Thanks for the tip but I do not think it worked too well.

I attached a pic that shows the material at work. Still looks foggy :( Maybe there’s something wrong with the lighting.

Yeah, it’s definitely the lighting.  The mirror material reflects EVERYTHING and does not dim or fog anything.
