Hello everyone, I’ve ran into a problem when I tried to use the mental ray shader fast sss skin (or a very similar name) in combination with a Layered Shader/Texutre node.
My aim is to have certain parts of the body of my model (e.g. Hands and face)use the ss skin shader and to use a blin shader for the rest as clothing material.
The ss skin shader is set up correctly (with a lightmap and so forth). I created a Layered shader node and plugged in the “color out” from the sss skin shader node into the first layer of the layered shader and used a transperancy to define where this material should appear. Somehow I had to switch to layered texture though in order to make the transperancy work - I’m not sure why the transperancy doesn’t work in layered shader?
Anyway I made a blinn texture too and used this as a “base” layer. So the ss skin shader is on top of the blin with a transperancy, so that it is only displayed on specific parts of the model.
My basic idea is working relatively well - I have the blin shader where I want it to be, but the sss skin shader isnt working as it is supposed to be. There is no sub surface scattering visible with my shader setup.
If I use the sss skin shader without the layered shader node on the whole model, the sub surface scattering works as expected…
By now you probably noticed that I’m very new at maya ;)
I would like to know if I made a mistake in the node setup or if mental ray shaders do not work with layered shader in general? Could you think of another way to achieve what I want than using layered shader? (assigning materials per polygon won’t work, since thats not precise enough...)
I wanna thank everyone in advance for helping me!
