Hello!

I am using Maya 2011 x64 on Windows 7.

I have a model which requires 2 UV sets, one for a basic gradient (normal UVs), and one for a tiling pattern (with scaled up UVs). I have separate materials for both the gradient and the pattern already created. I also have 2 UV sets ("map1" and “pattern") already created.

1. When I apply either of the materials to the object, the material gets applied to both UV sets, no matter which UV set I currently have selected.

2. Every tutorial I’ve found says to use the UV-Centric Relationship Editor to assign different textures to different UVs, but although I see both UV sets on the left, I only ever see 1 material on the right, so I don’t have anything to apply to the second UV set.

3. Most tutorials also call for a layered shader. I don’t think that this applies in my case, but I tried it anyway and ended up with the same issue as is listed in #2.

So my question is this:
How do I apply a different material to UV set2?

Thank you for your time! :)

Best,
caj

Ah, I see the problem. You want to use a Layered Texture.

1. Go ahead and establish you shader, select the color attribute, and select Layered Textured from the bottom of the right hand side list.

2. In the Layered Texture Attributes you can select the “Green Box”. That is your first Texture.

3. Select the Color attribute, and assign your texture map.

4. Change the “file: (blank)” from “file1” to something you will remember like “patternedMud”.  It’s towards the top of the screen, above the link to your texture map. Whatever you change this value too will be reflected in the UV-Centric editor.

5. Return to the Layered Texture Attributes

6. Click in a blank spot next to the formally green square, (should be blue now), and it will create another node and another texture. Repeat steps 2-5.

7. Enter the UV-Centric editor. You should see references for both the UV Maps and the Layered Textrures, so just correctly link the textures to the UV Maps.

8. Assign the Shader to the object

9. You may need to go back into the Layered Texture Attributes and adjust the “blending” or the order the textures as you see fit. To adjust the order just grab the blue (formally green) squares and middle mouse button drag them around. They are ordered from top to bottom, left to right.
