hey hey guys c’est moi encore..!

I have been trying to get two different specualr materials to work on the same model.. to achieve a “wet” look on reptile skin and i thought the layered shader would work for this.. one blinn with high eccentricity and one with low.. it also looks like my bump/normals dont work properly and i have to pipe them into both materials..

i am wondering if theres another way to achieve this..?

thanks guys

Can you post some screenshots of your shader setup?  Here is an example of a layered shader with mixed highlights and a bump map…

3ds Max 2013, Maya 2013
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
Core i7, 12GB RAM
Nvidia Quadro FX 3700 (Driver 297.03)

so which one of those are on the top? also do you have to plug the bump into both or just the top one..

i have noticed on my set up that the top material “smooths” over the underlying material that has the bump atatched and it seems odd to add the bump to the transparent material as you wont see it

In my example, the transparent material is on top and the bump is only applied to the transparent material…

right… and you can see the bump?

i thought there might have been a “photoshop” way to layer shaders with the blending nodes like multiply etc

i think i will have to applied the same bump to both materials as i want the bump to pick up the diffuse spec aswell as the point spec
