In 3DS, when you use the arch+design materials, there are nice preset materials such as rubber, masonry, leather etc etc already to be used. It saves alot of time because it gets you about 90% of the way.

In maya, is there a similar thing cos I cant find it? Are there presets hidden somewhere or saved in some MR shader library?

There are a few presets for mia_materials if you click the ‘presets’ tab (pic below) as well as a library or two circulating around the web, (http://www.sundaymotorrad.com/lugher3d/shaders/mia_presets.zip)

You can drop them in the presets/attrPresets/mia_material folder
