I can not render using mental ray when using a PSD network. I get these errors:

// Error: (Mayatomr.Output) : file error: /Volumes/Proton/Mike’s art/Maya/Tardis/3dPaintTextures/Racer1/checker1-polySurface13.tif //
// Error: (Mayatomr.Output) : file error: /Volumes/Proton/Mike’s art/Maya/Tardis/3dPaintTextures/Racer1/polySurfaceShape4_color.tif //
// Error: (mental ray) : ...ya/Tardis/3dPaintTextures/Racer1/polySurfaceShape4_color.tif: file format subtype or version not supported //
// Error: (mental ray) : ...aya/Tardis/3dPaintTextures/Racer1/checker1-polySurface13.tif: file format subtype or version not supported //

Can some one help me?

I’m confused why you suspect it’s a PSD network issue?
All the files you’ve listed are .tif’s…

As for what could be wrong with those images - verify that those .tif images are ‘not’ saved with LZW compression turned on.

That is my problem. I created a PSD network but it seems Mental Ray is reading them as tif’s. In the materials tab the image name shows up as this:  sourceimages/Racer1_nurbsToPolyShape1.psd

yes ive had this problem - I seem to remember that the psd network in the uv editor wouldnt work at all amongst other problems....
Im trying to find the threads I wrote at the time but no luck at the moment ill look later when ive got more time
one thing someone suggested was to assign a psd file to the shader colour rather than going straight to the image file but im still not sure what this achieves.
try removing the shader your using and allocate a normalsurface shader ie lambert etc dont change anything, go straight to the uv psd network
and just go through the process.I dont know what i was doing wrong before but i dont have this problem anymore and i use mental ray a lot

I had a similar problem when using Maya 7 and I through out the preference file and that fixed it. In maya 10 I can not find the preference file. I will try the reassigning of the psd file later, thanks.

Have you tried using some other image format other than .tif?  such as .exr, .jpg or .png?
