I need some expert help with textures.

I was remaping (planar projection) UV’s after modifying the polygon mesh on my model. Now, when I apply a texture, even the built in 2D checker texture, the model turns into a ‘ghost.’ I can map and reapply a new lambert material but it still ghosts when I put on any texture. If I go back to a previous file of this model, the texturing works fine.

See the attachment for a pic of the ghosted model.

I’ve spent several hours and can’t figure out the problem. Any wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

The checker pattern is indicating that you have not UVmapped those areas.

Thanks for the reply.

Several times I’ve tried to apply a new UV map through Create UV’s>Planar Mapping and Create Empty Empty UV Set. I can see the mesh in the texture editor (in the 0,1 space) but still can’t apply textures. The model polygon mesh was selected each time. When I right click on the geometry and select UV no UV’s appear. The display image is checked on.

Some background:

I had several lambert nodes on the original UV set and wanted to start over with an updated texture so I simply selected each of the lambert nodes in the outliner and hit delete. I’m guessing this isn’t the best way to remove materials and textures.

Thying to fix it, I thought Maya had a glitch so I reloaded it with no luck. I tried to import the geometry into a new file thinking the old one was corrupt, that didn’t work either. At one point the whole model turned solid green like those little army figures kids play with, if that’s any help.

I’m new to Maya and self taught, so far textures have been pretty confusing so it’s my hope I’m missing something fundamental. Is there a better method or some prep work to do to map UV’s?
