Paint Effects - Canvas issue

Hi I have been exploring PaintFX recently and I am unable to get the canvas in white color as soon as I choose Panels | panel | paint effects and it starts with white but immediately turns black and am unable to apply strokes because of this black color .I tried changing the channels but still it is black and not swapping between paint as scene / paint as canvas.

I dont know if this is a bug in Maya ,what I have is Maya 2011 version.

pls help somebody
