Some faces look different when applying material to model

when i add a material to a polygonal object some of it’s faces look different from the others
i’m new to maya please help me to fix it

yes, attach screenshots.

I wonder if the normals are reversed on those faces…

select your object
Display>Polygons>Face Normals

it’ll look like a porcupine…
Are those facets normals going in the same direction as the others in your object?
