I’m having trouble getting the desired translucent effect using mental ray’s mia_material. With a standard Maya shader such as phong, there is an attribute called “Translucence Focus”. This can be used to fade out the translucent effect when viewing an object lit from the front. I only want the translucence to be visible when the object is backlit.

I cannot find the equivalent to this in mental ray. The translucency is visible when the object is frontlit too. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks in advance!
