| Trouble with placing texture map
|
|
|
Hello,
I have a door [Width = 60cm / Height = 180cm [in Maya]] and an image with pixels [width = 965 / Height = 2062 which equals width = 34cm / Height = 72cm [in Photoshop]]. Since the image is small in cms, it should stretch on the door in the Maya viewport when applying texture to the object but the image appears bigger in the viewport when textured, without stratching. I just can’t seem to understand it.
Please have look at the image for better understanding, the red area marked in image Door_Area.jpg corresponds as to the part visible in Maya’s textured image, while the red area marked in image Door_Maya.jpg shows where the door is beng applied.
I hope the question is clear enough and understood, if not please do question.
Thank You very much.

Looks like an issue with your UV-mapping, are you familiar with the UV Texture Editor?

The UV’s determine how the texture appears on your model (placement, size), so you need to adjust the UV’s of your model to get your texture to appear as desired.

Mr n8skow,
despite redoing the whole of mapping the result is the same, however I have observed that the texture image I apply is stretched in Maya while the actual image is not at all strectched.
Image.jpg - Image strecthed in Maya
Image2.jpg - Original Image not stretched
If I remember correct there is a setting in Maya to not stretch the image. Any ideas how to ?
Thank You

The image ‘appears’ stretched because you are using a non-square texture.
UV coordinate space is 0-1 in the XY axis, (square) so it just looks stretched in the UVEditor.
I’m not aware of a way to change this behavior, but maybe someone else can chime in here…
