Maya rendering problem

I had been using the following script in maya:

$exists=0;
 for (
$item in `getPanel -scriptType "renderWindowPanel"`) {
  
if ( $item == "renderView" {

if ( $exists == {

It has been working out just fine to render out a scene using mental ray.  Unfortunately today, it just won’t work anymore.  I get the following error when trying to execute the script:

can someone please help me figure out whats going on?
