Does anyone out there know what mel command(s) I should use to save all the current script editor tabs AND their contents, so that they are reloaded when Maya starts? When I quit Maya everything is saved properly and is present when the program starts up again, but when Maya crashes I lose everything in those script editor tabs.

savePrefs and saveToolSettings are not doing the trick. The latter will save the most recent tabs, but not the contents of the tab.

Further, just what kind of a program-wide save is Maya performing when we quit the program anyway? Sure would be nice to have that saving functionality in mel and thus in a button.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
