Anyway to convert a poly to a NURB so i can extract an isoparm?

Hi everybody -
first post here. I’ve obviously forgotten how to do this.
Here’s what i’m trying to do:

create a poly helix
convert it to a nurb
select 1 isoparm
duplicate it so i can loft it

basically, i want to create a nurbs helix so i’ll have more deforming power.
What’s the best way to do this?
