Hey guys! My maya’s camera based selection doesn’t work, and it realy complicates the modeling process! If i switch to camera based selection, and try to select components, nothing happens, the only thing it seems i can select is the whole model. Please help me with this!

I’m following the gettingstarted book for maya autodesk 2011 and having the same problem. I managed to do this in another way by zooming in and selecting the vertexes from inside out the head. Does anyone know how to fix the problem with the Camera Based Selection? I want to start off with Maya in an official way. If you have any ideas please tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use camera based selection in component mode all the time.  I have not had any issues.  Can you explain exactly what you are doing and what camera you are using (Orthographic).

I have the object in Vertex-mode and Camera Based Selection tool enabled. For some reasons it does not let me select the components and nothing happens… I’ve tried to install the Maya 2011 Hotfix 3, mental ray Satellite and Open Source Code used with Maya 2011 Hot Fix 3 for Maya 2011 but nothing works whatsoever (link http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/ser...d=15407662&linkID=9242259)

Could it be some kind of bug or probably wrong settings?

Try going in to component mode using the “select by component type” icon (at the top).  Select one of the component option (Face, Vert, Edge).
Select one of the components on your object, hold your “b” key and left mouse cursor down while dragging the mouse.  This will automatically turn soft selection on while sizing the selection brush size.  If this doesn’t work you may have a graphic driver issue.  This is not a Maya error.  No fix for this because it is not a common error.

I’ve had a similar problem with selecting objects in any mode. I clicked on an object or component, nothing happened, nothing selected, can’t use RMB choose selection mode menu. This occured after running Maya for a while. Restart Maya fixes the problem but it’ll come back again.

My solution (works for me so far):
Change my ATI graphic card settings. 3D - set everything to ‘use application setting’, turn off ATI overdrive.

I’m running win7x64 with ATI Radeon 5870 (latest driver updated)

I was having the same problem runing maya 2012 with a GTX 285 and your solution fixed it...Thanks!!!!

This also fixes another bug: when drag selecting multiple vertex with camera based selection ON there was a random selection bug that is now gone.
