Hello, my name is Brandon and I am trying to model a head in Maya 8.5 unlimited, I deleted one side and worked on the other in hopes of mirroring the other side. The problem that I have is that when I go to mirror the polygon the vertices’s seems to connect in the middle and I even tried the duplicate special option it worked but it leaves and face in the middle when I go to extrude in the mouth. Thanks in advance!!!!

Sorry for being late on the reply, but I bet I know what’s up.
After you mirror it, go to your attribute editor and there should be a tab that says something like “polyMirror1”, click it and in there you should see an option and slider for merge threshold. Set it to something low like 0.1 and your problem should fade away. If not keep setting it lower and lower until your satisfied, just be sure to make sure all your verts near the axis are snapped.
Good luck!

Thank you so much!!! I finally got it looking right. I had one vert that was out of alignment and it was throwing everything off.

b4 mirroring ur GEOMETRY ....select d vertices of ur Geometry border and scale or grid snap it to make it aligned properly to each other....

That was really helpful, I hadn’t got around to figuring out how to do that on the head I’m modeling myself, as I was taught to use the Duplicate Special tool, which previously worked fine but really doesn’t seem to want to mirror it on the right axis anymore! So thanks!
