Attached is a horse I’m modeling. I plan to use it to help me learn displacement maps. To that end the model uses only enough polygons to provide a basic shape. My problem is around the eye, nose and mouth.

I can’t figure out how to add a bit more detail around the eye. I don’t think I can use a displacment map to create eyelid detail (or can I?). A loop around the eye creates triangles. Can I add detail without adding a ton of edge loops to the whole model? How much detail do I really need in the base mesh, if I’m using a displacement map?

Thanks in advance for any help you give.

One easy way:
Extruding the two faces in the eye center will add more geometry.
Edit Mesh | Extrude

Now that I look at it, that makes a ton of sense! I knew I was over-thinking the problem.

Thanks for the help!
