Do maya have a way to reference meshes (like in softimage/max)? Its basically like instancing a mesh. However tho changing the “parent” object will change the “child”, the child wont change the parent.

-thanks =D

Maya can reference files under File -> Create Reference (or even the Reference Editor)

It allows you to work with the contents of that file, creating animations, texturing etc, and if the object being reference needs changing, you edit the referenced file and it instances throughout all the files referencing it.

Thanks for the reply Lee =D.

I understand that you can reference meshes as files, but I think it would be too much of a hassle (for what im doing).

Im just use to doing it alot, was hoping maya had a similar feature (both SI and max have this). Gives some nice flexibility.

-cheers!

Oh ok, gotcha now.
Im not familiar with any tool in maya similar to max’s clone - reference tool, however im also not a modeller, so tools like that I might have missed.
