I would like to start modelling the guy who’s standing up sort of.
I was wondering how I should go about doing this?
Could someone give me a list stating things I should do to model this guy and make him look as realistic as possible?

Assuming this is someone you know and not from a photo you downloaded from someone’s facebook page - get lots of reference.  Photograph him from many angles, with many facial expressions.  Photograph him from the front and side in a cruciform (arms extended outward) pose, standing as far away as you can and using a long focal length (longer lenses flatten out perspective and give you a truer orthographic view - though it will never be perfect).  Do the same with his head - front and side.

Spend time in Photoshop making sure your front and side views line up with each other - make sure the line of the eyes, nose, lips, shoulders, navel, knees, etc are the same for both views.  Tweak the images so that you have a good centerline - really work on the bilateral symmetry; it will make your modeling task easier.

Bring the photos in to your front and side cameras as image planes.  Set the planes up so that the full body model is standing on the ground plane; spend time with the image plane attributes to make sure they line up with each other.  You can position locators at the main body/head parts in one view, then line the image up to the locators in the other view.

The more time you spend perfecting your reference images, the easier time you will have of it.

Do some anatomical research, particularly about the muscles and structure of the head.  When you model this head, you want your main edges to follow the musculature of the face - the round muscles encircling the eyes and mouth; the naso-labial folds, the cheekbones; then relate these muscles to the pictures you have of your subject.  Print a photo of your subject, and “preplan” the layout of your polygon edges - draw right on top of the photo with a marker, and follow your plan.

There are lots of human modeling tutorials on this and other sites; you need to be pretty familiar with the tools and methods for realistic modeling.  Check out Mashru Mishu’s work - I think he has some tutorials online and he does some very impressive realism.

Or, instead of that, create a large cube and cut away every part that doesn’t look like that guy.

Will I find how to model muscles on Mashru Mishu’s work and projects?
