I’m trying to use the Create Polygon tool. My problem is that when I click to create a polygon I don’t see anything. I can keep clicking and clicking to create points, which it apparently IS creating, but I don’t see anything until I switch through one of the View types (wireframe, shaded, etc.). I know I’m supposed to see the verts the second I click but that’s not what I’m getting, it’s more like I need to just go through the motions of blindly creating my shape, change views, and then edit the resulting verts and edges later. Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Thanks.

I’m an illustrator and animator.

Hi.

I’m new to maya, and I have the same problem as you. While I draw the polygon tool, i can’t see the lines, they only show up when I click enter. Drawing blindly let me nervous. Did you figure it out the fix for it ?

using:
Maya 2012 x64
Windows 7 x64
Intel Q9550

Thanks

I think I understand the issue, let me recap what is going on.

You are using the Create Polygon tool to make a new polygon shape, and by default that shape sits on the ground plane (Y = 0) in the Top view. Your view can be obstructed by objects that exist or sit above the ground plane. ( Y = +0) because you can’t normally see through a solid object.

You can resolve this with three different processes.

You can assign a material with a transparency and apply it to object blocking your view.
You can select “Wireframe” mode when drawing your polygon.
You can select “X-Ray” mode to give everything a non-destructive 50% transparency.

I hope that helps,

Avotas
