Hi all, i just wondering if in Maya, like in Softimage, there is a way to move the pivot of an object in a temporary way, so when i deselect that object, the pivot point return in the defaul position.

dont know how it works in softimage exactly but pressing the “d” key while in move, rotate or scale tool should do the job!

The pivot point doesn’t spring back to the original location afterward though…

Only thing I can think of would be to group the object, and then move the pivot point of the group where you want (original object will retain it’s pivot point).

omg n8skow you are right. never realized that it only works in component mode that it snaps back or lets say centers again between selected components.

would have bet that it has worked as temp movement of the pivot...seems i`m getting old:(

just hit the (insert) key than you can move the pivot point anywhere you want

We’ve established how to move the pivot point, the 2nd part of the question is how to have it snap back to the original position afterward though…
